Structure and Curriculum
The Primary Years
The primary years at The River School are a time of great growth and learning for children. In small class sizes, children follow a curriculum that builds on the foundations laid in Nursery.
Children enjoy lessons both inside the classroom and outside in the school's extensive grounds. The curriculum is largely based on the Hamilton Trust plans, and is supplemented by additional material as appropriate. Expectations for Phonics, English and Mathematics are high, and these are reflected in results. Foundation subjects also have a high value, and are taught in a practical way.
The school makes use of its extensive grounds through Forest School sessions, gardening lessons and bee-keeping activities.
As well as aiming for high academic learning, the children are given an education based on Christian values. This builds character and provides the bedrock to being a positive influence in society.
As children progress through the primary years, they are stretched and encouraged to be confident, independent learners. They are helped to organise themselves, reach their potential and approach their education with enthusiasm.
The Primary School Day runs from 8:40am until 3:15pm.
